Welcome to the 2013-2014 School Year!

Welcome back, Humanities Teachers!

I hope you had an opportunity to refresh, recharge, and renew over the (very short) summer weeks.  Today was the first day with students, and as hectic as it is, the energy in the schools as I walked through made me smile!

We have a lot of "initiatives" that we are going to be working on throughout this school year.  I remember when I was a classroom teacher, listening to the administrative team talk about the focus of our work for the year and feeling stressed.  Now, the number of initiatives have multiplied, and I am a member of the administrative team stressing everyone out (including myself)!

So in an effort to ease peoples' minds (I created this in an effort to ease my own mind), I have broken down the work that we are doing and the focus of our work for the rest of the year.

Curriculum:
Curriculum Unit Design Stage 1 and portions of Stage 2 based on the Understanding by Design (UbD) model - Early Release Days & Department PLCs

Instruction:
Teachers 21 Course: The Effective Teacher: Leading and Learning

Assessment:
Stage 2 of UbD Unit design (primary focus 2014-2015)

New Educator Evaluation System:
Focus on Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Data to support a proficiency rating according to the Educator Rubric

Some might think that I have oversimplified the initiatives that we as a district are focused on, but we hope you will see how they are all intertwined and woven together to help us support high student achievement and excellence as evidenced by college and career ready Middleborough graduates.

Best wishes for a great school year!
